Decorative Accents And Staging by Lana / with 0 comments

Decorative accents are an essential part of the property styling process. They reveal the owner’s lifestyle and help highlight the key features of the space and define the purpose of each room, when the property is intended for sale.

There are two things to bear in mind when selecting decorative accents: will they be intended for redecorating a lived-in space, or will they be used for staging a home for sale.

If you only want to freshen up your interior space to bring new energy and life to it, consider the following: What is your end goal by changing the interior decor? Is it to only add seasonal decoration, or is to liven up the space and make it cozy and comforting by adding more permanent décor?

Choosing decorative accents for a lived-in space tends to be easier: you can simply follow your own style and preference, when it comes to colours and shapes.

Staging a property for sale or renting out however requires a different approach. The décor and decorative accents have to blend in nicely with the rest of the interior and be less personalized, in order to appeal to the majority of potential buyers/renters.

If you are selecting decorative accents in order to sell a house or an apartment, you will need to take into consideration the location of the property and the social status of the potential buyers. If the property is in a high-end area, the decorative accents will need to match accordingly to give a more luxurious feel to the interior. If the property is in a country or cottage area, the decorating style would be more relaxed and casual. And, if the property is intended for renting out, consider the type of renter you would like to attract and decorate accordingly.

Whatever the location or purpose of the space, consider matching colors and continuous flow throughout it. Choose lighter, more pastel colors to make the space feel more airy and bright. Such colors are easy to combine with accents in contrasting darker tones and tend to match most interiors and styles. Select accents that complement each other and create an overall sense of tranquility and homeyness. By all means add a splash of bold colors throughout the space, but let those be in smaller accents rather than furniture or curtains.

You may ask what falls under the category of decorative accents. Decorative accents can be items like: throw pillows, blankets /throws, vases or potted plants, candles, book ends, trays, wall art, etc.

Here are some of my picks for the day from Bouclair which, alone or in combination with others, would fit perfectly in most interiors and exteriors. Just a quick note, however, that this is not a sponsored post. I just like the variety of pretty items the store offers.

Green plants like mint, thyme, basil, etc. add freshness and life into all spaces. They also bring health benefits as a great addition to a variety of meals and salads. Go green! 😊

Glass lanterns like this one would make a great addition to both your interior and exterior space. It is a combination of modern and rustic that would look great either placed on a bookshelf, or entryway console table, or even on a night stand as additional source of light (just ensure to place a candle inside 😊). It can also make a great addition to your patio or pergola. Simply hang a few around and you will instantly create a unique, romantic and delightful atmosphere.

offer light, yet soothing colors that would add peace and tranquility to any space.  Blue tones remind of the ocean and the sky. Add a trio of different size pillar candles to your coffee table. Place the vase on the fireplace mantle or on the nearby console table. The room thus acquires a more beachy, Mediterranean style. It will warm up your soul during the cold winter days and will get you dreaming during the spring/summer days, creating a breezy, ocean-like feeling.

Wood Bark Candle

If you are more into the rustic, contemporary or industrial styles, the gold embossed leaf tray and combo of wood bark candle would fit perfectly into your interior. The leaf plate would perfectly complement a dark wood entryway console table and will be a great spot to keep your keys. Or you can put it on a bedroom dresser to keep earrings in place. The glass lantern and wood bark candle can also complement the bedroom interior by adding a more romantic feel.  It would also look as good in a living room or dining room setting. Just unleash your imagination.

The Agave in Mango Wood Pot will also add warmth and style into the rustic or industrial interior with their texture and color. Place on the window, book shelf or countertop to blend in with the rest of the décor.

It fits perfectly in both rustic and contemporary interiors. It can add warmth and coziness to any interior, whether placed next to a fireplace in the living room, or in the bedroom. Simply add a knit throw and matching pillows to it. It can also make the bathroom or laundry room more inviting. The options are endless.
