Planning and furnishing your baby’s nursery is one of the most precious and exciting moments in life.
As a mom-to-be, you want your baby’s room to be unique, full of light, color and positive energy. Here are some ideas that may help with planning and making your experience unforgettable:
- Regardless of whether it will be a boy or a girl, his/her room should be full of light. Allow your baby to enjoy the sun and nature outside. Select fresh, yet soothing colors like off-white, light grey, blue or pink. Pastel colors are always a good choice. Among the 2019 trend colors by Benjamin Moore are: Harbour Fog, Balboa Mist, Head Over Heels and Metropolitan. All of them perfect for a new born baby room. Sherwin Williams also has great options like: Bathe Blue, Rosy Outlook, Rhapsody Lilac, Kilim Beige or Magnetic Grey. Whichever brand you choose, the results would be amazing.
- Select furniture (crib, changing table, rocking chair, etc.) in matching colors to create a seamless flow in the room. Light colors like white and natural beige/brown would make the room feel more open and spacious. Dark brown and black would however create a great contrast against the light color of the walls. Choose natural materials like wood (oak, beech, etc.) as it is sturdy and durable. A rocking chair or recliner is always a must, as this is where you will be bonding with your baby. It should be comfortable enough due to the amount of time you will be spending in it. Don’t choose by looks and style, choose based on comfort level and durability.
- When it comes to bedding, natural fabrics like cotton are essential for your baby’s sheets and blankets, as your baby’s skin is very delicate. Always go with natural fabrics that are soft to the touch and hypoallergenic for your baby to happily lie or crawl on.
- Accessories like pictures or paintings create a sense of interior completeness and are also a delight for the eyes. Select pictures/paintings that have soothing image(s) and create the feeling of peace and happiness.
- Ensure there is a nice storage for your baby’s toys. A woven basket provides ample storage space and is a great decorative and functional accent.
- Last, but not least, music. Music can do wonders when getting your baby to sleep. Avoid modern technology, however, like TV or DVD players. An old fashioned gramophone or your own singing would do a much better job and will make your baby fall asleep in no time. Choose music/songs that are soothing, slow and quieter.
And most of all, don’t forget to have lots of fun, while planning and decorating the most exciting room in your house. Stay happy! 😊
